Cooking with RSI

The Difficulty

When you work as a chef, the last thing you want is to develop is RSI – repetitive strain injury – from carrying out your day-to-day tasks. However, this is exactly what happened to Harvey when he developed Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, a painful condition of the hand caused by the compression of a major nerve where it passes over the carpal bones in the wrist. Harvey struggled with holding a conventional knife handle and had trouble with cutting and slicing foods. His weakened grip also meant that he dropped a lot of things, including food.

The Solution

Harvey was devastated as he loved his work in a care home, so he turned to Easi-Grip® knives for help after his initial treatment. The ergonomic handle made the carving knife, bread knife and all purpose knife a lot easier to hold compared with conventional knives. The thicker grip and angled handle meant that he could get a firm purchase and cutting would cause far less strain to his hand and wrist. In short, his tasks could be carried out much more easily and safely, and in comfort.

The Results

Easi-Grip® Knives give me the confidence to carry out my duties. My Occupational Therapist confirmed these knives will reduce the pressure and strain in my wrist and hand, which will help reduce the possibility of the original symptoms returning.”
